The Cincinnati Bailliage chose to have the fall Mondiale event at Chef Jose Salazar’s newly opened Mita’s in downtown Cincinnati.
This Latin American restaurant was inspired by the chef’s grandmother from Medellin, Columbia. Jose spent summers with her while growing up in New York City and credits her with teaching him the fine art of Spanish as well as Latin American cuisine.
Chef Salazar prepared three courses and sommeliers Mary Horn, Kathy Merchant, and Bethanie Butcher from our bailliage were given the task of pairing wines with each course.
As an added twist to our evening, Professionnel du Vin Horn was asked choose wines from Portugal, whereas Professionnel du Vin Merchant and Dame de la Chaîne Butcher were asked to use wines from South America and Spain respectively. Each sommelier shared innovative wines that expertly brought out the unique qualities of each dish.
Moreover, the evening raised funds to support our local Young Chefs. This collaboration between Vice Echanson Mike Monnin, Bailli George Elliott, Chef Salazar and our 3 sommeliers drew the highest praise from all members of our bailliage.
