On August 11, the Cincinnati Bailliage spent a perfect summer evening at the gorgeous country farm of Vice Chargé de Mission, as well as Bronze Star of Excellence winner, Clint Haynes and his gracious wife Jean.
This fourth annual event is always one of the best attended Chaîne gatherings of the year and raises money for the Irwin and Barbara Weinberg Culinary Scholarship Fund. This fund has been hugely successful in raising money to assist in the education of students at Cincinnati’s Midwest Culinary Institute.
Each member at this event contributed $25 toward the fund and brought a bottle of outstanding wine to share. An additional $5,820 was raised by Vice Echanson Mary Horn and Vice Echanson Honoraire Mike Monnin by auctioning wines left over from previous events or donated. Most of the money raised will go into the Weinberg fund.
The evening started off with members enjoying a stunning display of cheeses and fruit which were meticulously prepared by Jean Haynes and perfectly paired with a wide array of summer white and rose wines. This was followed by Bronze Star winner Pat Gaito’s famous gourmet mussels with grilled bread. The main course of the evening consisted of barbecued beef brisket, smoked Salmon and five unique varieties of salads all prepared by Mr. Haynes, Mr. Gaito, Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Chuck Hong, and Chevalier Shannon Reed.
The evening ended with the announcement of the auction winners by Bailli George Elliott and a chorus of praise from all members.
