On a chilly January 16, 2017, Mondiale members of the Cincinnati Bailliage met at the tasting room of the Ohio Valley Beer and Wine distributors for a vertical tasting of Vieux Télégraphe wines. Domaine Vieux Télégraphe, which has been led by the legendary Brunier family for over 100 years, has some of the most celebrated wines in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region of southern France. The tasting was expertly organized through the collaboration of Vice Echanson Mike Monnin, Professionnel du Vin Mary Horn, and Bailli George Elliott.
Upon entering the tasting room, members were treated to Les Pallières Gigondas Rosé 2015 and appetizers prepared by Funky’s Catering. After time to socialize and catch up on the happenings of the holiday season, the formal tasting was led by Advanced Sommelier, Professionnel du Vin Mary Horn. She began with the 2013 and 2014 vintages of Châteauneuf -du-Pape blanc and led the group through the much anticipated 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 vintages of the Grenache based Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
A gourmet buffet from Funky’s Catering was expertly paired with these fabulous wines. Buffet highlights included Ruby Trout with Walnut Beurre Blanc and Filet au Poivre with Plum Vinocotto. Professionnel du Vin Horn’s infinite wine knowledge along with stories about the famous region and family only added to the experience of tasting these exceptional wines accompanied by gourmet cuisine.
Everyone in attendance agreed it was a wonderful way to spend a cold, wintery Monday evening in Cincinnati!
