The Cincinnati chapter of Mondiale held its biennial “Cellar Treasures” event on October 17, 2017. It was held at the Transept in the trendy Over-the-Rhine district. The Transept is a stunning venue owned and operated by Michael Forgus of Funky’s catering.
The building is a renovated German gothic church that was built in 1867 and served the first German-American congregation in Cincinnati. Today it is an upscale bar and event center near historic Music Hall and across the street from a gorgeous neighborhood park. Funky’s catering provided the exquisite cuisine which included Confit Ginny Hen di Cappello, Sous Vide Beef Tenderloin with Truffle Butter, and a Pumpkin Pear dessert with Pomegranate Cabernet Syrup.
As a part of this event, members are asked to bring bottles of their finest cellared wines to share. Members then voted for their favorite wine which this year was a 1933 Domaine Cazes Rivesaltes. Chevalier Robert Dalhausen was the proud donor of this stunning offering and was awarded a Chaîne folio for his outstanding wine.
This year Vice Enchanson Mary Horn added two mystery wines (a 2014 Aubert Vineyard Chardonnay and a 2006 Heitz Cellars Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon) which members tried to identify by blind tasting. Professionnel du vin Kathy Merchant was closest to the mark and was awarded a deck of Chaîne playing cards.
Members heartily thanked Vice Enchanson Horn, Vice Enchanson Honoraire Mike Monnin, and Bailli George Elliott for an evening of unparalleled wine, exceptional food, and memorable camaraderie.
