Members of the Cincinnati Mondiale spent an enchanting evening at the Northern Kentucky division of Heidelberg Distributors learning almost everything there is to know about beer.
Leading the discussion was Dave Gausepohl, known as “Beer Dave”, who works as the specialty beer manager for Heidelberg. Mr. Gausepohl has worked in the production, wholesale, and retail tiers of the brewing industry and has published numerous articles related to all aspects of beer. He is currently a member of many national and local beer organizations and has been referred to as the Cliff Claven of Beer, for any ‘Cheers’ aficionados!
Mondiale members were greeted with passed appetizers supplied by Michael Forgus of Funky’s Catering. Offerings of Tuna Tataki with Mango Slaw as well as Chorizo and Corn Empanadas were paired with a refreshing Hefeweizen from Munich, Germany.
Once everyone was seated, Vice Echanson Mary Horn, the organizer of the event, introduced “Beer Dave”. Mr. Gausepohl proceeded to guide members through sixteen beers from all around the world using his dry wit, passion for beer, and impeccable knowledge. Beers ranging from a light Schafly Kölsch to a New Holland Dragon’s Milk provided something for everyone to enjoy.
Following the presentation, an outstanding buffet dinner was provided by Funky’s Catering which included Durham Ranch Pheasant Breast and Korean BBQ Lamb Ribs. Members thoroughly enjoyed trying their hand at pairing some of the newly tasted beers with the courses. Without exception, a new appreciation for beer was experienced by all in attendance.
